Thanks.  BTW, if one uses the ATI driver with powerplay, one has to set 
the desired power mode *after* X is started (e.g. using "aticonfig 
--effective=now --set-powerstate=1"). I know that this doesn't apply to 
your system (Radeon 7500), but it does apply to my system (Radeon 9000).
