Intriguing idea, but how do you check the cycle counter?

Is there any way to access the internal counter register of the smart
chipset on the battery. Say, "mount" it as a block device, something like:

  mount /dev/battery0
  cat /dev/battery0/counter

Or, am I dreaming?
