We've gotten z60m at work and I have mixed feelings about it.

The downsides:

* It's heavy and clumsy.
* The cover is titanium. I dont know if there is a black version.
* It has windows keys.
* No serial port, but I guess no new laptops have one.. incredibly enough.

The good parts:

* The screen is great.
* It's quiet.
* About 2.5 hours battery time, although im comparing with my old t30.
* Just about everything works in Linux (Gentoo). The only thing I havent
  bothered with yet is the finger print reader.
* The builtin 100GB SATA 16mb disk is almost as fast as my old 60gb 7200
  travelstar.

Regarding your questions:

There are 2 x 512mb modules in mine.

My DVD-ROM has model number UJ-830Z and is made by Panasonic. It's labeled DVD
Multi+. I've never tried burning DVD's with it but it says DVD+RW on it.
