Oh it worked for me previously, it is not like the iPod cable will definitely
break the USB ports. I just reported what happened in my case :( I now have
a Hub between my TP and my other USB devices, the Apple iPod cable is
attached to it now for a couple of month and from time to time I hook my iPod
to it. And I did not experienced any problems so far.

If I would know I think I would make sure that my TP will never suffer from
this problem. However, the TP broke down when I attached a device to it
(external HDD) and the other time with the iPod cable. If I have to do any
plugging of the USB ports, directly at the TP I power it off. However, as
mentioned earlier I have a hub now, so I do not need to touch the TP USB
ports directly anymore.

Don't worry to much, after all it is only a computer :)
