My Thinkpad doesn't have an ATI card, so this might not be relevant.  I
had flickery text in console mode (usually, horizontal lines winking at
me) whilst the console was in Fedora's default state of "no change."  It
was in 80x25 mode.

I provided the framebuffer kernel parameter for Vesa 1024x768 text mode,
using my grub config, and after a reboot my console was both clearer and
steadier.  More text on the screen at once, too.  Oh, and I got a
penguin when I booted.  Totally cool.
