I own since some month a second-hand (but first hand my dad ;) T23 2647-8MG
installed with ubuntu dapper.

All work well, apart that:

1) upgrading kernel to latest (linux-image-2.6.15-26-686) made the TP refuse
to boot: kernel load, boot, start the splash screen, write ``preparing
essential modules'' and then hang.
Note that linux-image-2.6.15-25-686 i'm using now work flawlessy.

2) i've no clue to make work the winmodem. it is a:

0000:02:02.0 Communication controller: Agere Systems WinModem 56k (rev 01)
Subsystem: AMBIT Microsystem Corp. IBM ThinkPad T23 (2647-4MG)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
        Memory at c0201000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]
        I/O ports at 6440 [size=8]
        I/O ports at 6000 [size=256]
Capabilities: [f8] Power Management version 2

pci id: 11c1:0449, Subsystem: 1468:0410, and i've followed all the hints
(scanModem, download ltmodem-2.6-alk-8.tar.bz2, got linux-headers that match
current kernel, ...), the module load fine:

Aug 9 14:38:57 localhost kernel: [17179597.672000] ltmodem: module license 'Proprietary' taints kernel.
Aug 9 14:38:57 localhost kernel: [17179597.676000] Loading Lucent Modem Controller driver version 8.26-alk-8
Aug  9 14:38:57 localhost kernel: [17179597.680000] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:02.0[A] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
Aug 9 14:38:57 localhost kernel: [17179597.680000] Detected Parameters Irq=11 BaseAddress=0x6000 ComAddress=0x6440
Aug 9 14:38:57 localhost kernel: [17179597.680000] ttyLTM0 at I/O 0x6000 (irq = 11) is a Lucent/Agere Modem

but a simple access to /dev/modem or /dev/ttyLTM0 simply lockup the
machine, even a AltGr+PrintScr+b does nothing.

Some hint?
