hi Daniel,

i don't have time for a detailed answer but here are some pointers which
should get you started (remember google and the gentoo-forums are your
friends).

1. emerge sys-kernel/suspend2-sources to get suspend to disk working. it
contains the suspend2 patches on top of the gentoo patched sources.

2. patch the kernel source with the radeon powerdrain patch available on
thinkwiki [1]. this is if you have a radeon chipset of course.

3. emerge sys-power/hibernate-script to be able to suspend to disk via
suspend2. the configuration is stored in /etc/hibernate/hibernate.conf

4. i also use the hibernate script for suspend to ram with a custom
file /etc/hibernate/hibernate-ram.conf

5. use an ACPI event script from thinkwiki [1] and customize it so that
"hibernate" is called for the suspend to disk event and "hibernate
-F /etc/hibernate/hibernate-ram.conf" for the slepp/lid events.

klaptopdaemon should be enabled in the control centre kontrol afaik. the
ksysguard applet can also show this information but is not very pretty.
i personally use app-laptop/kthinkbat [2] and kde-misc/cpuinfo [3]

i hope this helps.
