Well, usually thinkpads have a great thermal design. In my last notebook  
(a piece of shit from a german company) there was a Celeron 1700. It was  
quite "normal" that the temperature reached 112C where the machine powered  
off. 82C is not nice, but can be considered as safe. At a temperature of  
~130C the silicium melts so as far as I know that is the critical limit.
