I put an ipw2200 in my T41 and successfully used the NVRAM hack to
disable the whitelist check. That worked until I had to have the
system-board replaced and told the IBM tech to make sure I had the
latest BIOS.  The only downside to the NVRAM hack is if for some
reason your NVRAM gets mangled (mine did once), you'll have to
disassemble, pull the card, reassemble, reboot, run the nvram program,
then disassemble, install card, etc.

So if you can get a card that's supported by your BIOS I highly
recommend it :).
