What am I missing? I've not seen anything yet to indicate that this was the

Well, IBM didn't want to supply that market either, which is the reason they 
sold their personal computing division in the first place. I think both IBM 
and Lenovo are trying to run a mass-market sized business (with the hope for 
mass-market profit margins) for a much smaller, specialty market--perhaps if 
they'd scale down the Thinkpad business there wouldn't be so much pressure to 
cheapen the product.
