Never heard of FIR working as a common serial link, I think you need to use
one of the IrDA protocols (i.e. stuff like irattach) with FIR.

Hmm, I stress-tested this a *lot*, and got no failures whatsoever, even
after resume (of course, unloading the driver before hibernation).

Do you get any OOPSes (kernel crash logs)?  Or it just hangs?

Make 100% sure you removed the old nsc-ircc.h and nsc-ircc.c, and use either
freshely patched 2.6.16 ones with the sigle new patch, or the already
patched ones I sent you.
