Do you have AGP FastWrite enabled in the device section? If so, try=20
disabling it.

Apart from that I gather that 3D acceleration is still not quite there=20
yet for the r300. There's a thread [1] in the Gentoo Forums on X.org=20
7.1 and DRI.
