The v5000 was r4xx based. the v5200 is r5xx based.  The 3D and
probably 2D engines are not too different from the r3/4xx radeons.=20
The display engine (crtcs, outputs, etc.), "avivo", however is
completely new.  I'd imagine ATI will release a flgrx driver for avivo
based radeons eventually.  Unfortunately, they are not releasing even
basic specs to the avivo engine, so we probably won't see an open
source driver anytime soon without reverse engineering.
