Be careful.  The first link above has information on using ALSA drivers, 
the second on is about using OSS drivers.  Setting up the OSS driver on 
these ThinkPads is maybe a bit easier, but the ALSA driver gives access 
to more features of the sound chip. like the (rather useless) "3-D 
sound" effect.  It would be easy to get confused by the two different 
but similar configurations.
