 	More accurately, it flushes the capacitors that the CMOS 
button-cell battery holds active, so that it falls back to the 
defaults, as if your CMOS battery had wiped out.

 	I have this problem, my 1-year-old T42p has an absolutely dead 
CMOS battery. When/if the main battery runs out (which happens quite 
often with my 9-cell batteries now), my BIOS settings are reset to 
blank values (no date, no time, peripheral defaults, etc.)
