It completely drains the notebook's capacitors, thereby removing ALL =20
electricity. I'm not sure what effect this has, but it has to be some =20
sort of electronics that don't ever shut off normally (the power =20
management I would presume) that need resetting.

Has on all that I've tried it on (some X series notebooks [forget =20
which], R40, R51, R52).

Old tech trick. Learned it from an IBM tech helping me with a bricked =
365XD.
So far it works from the 360 series laptop to resent day.=20
