On my TP600, with a 4GB disk, hdparm -t gives 5.62MB/s.

I use mine as a wireless access point with the hostap driver.
It's been very stable:
 10:26:54 up 372 days, 19:00,  2 users,  load average: 0.02, 0.03, 0.00
