I was not looking at the cached reads... that's going to be dependent on
current disk activity i think.

to be comparable these tests need to be done on same RPM drives, in
single user mode.

I think the read rate should be about 50MB/s +- ~5MB/s for a 7200rpm
drive independent of whether it's in AHCI mode or compatibility mode.
