[ltp] OT: About third-patry anti-spam protection (some people just don't get it...)

Sorry for this OT, but I'm seriously angry with "protection" of some
sort. Below is a sample message I received concerning my previous two
posts.

So I get this here notice that this here "Darrin" uses some fancy
"protection".

| Spam Arrest requests that senders verify themselves before their email
is delivered.

That's very convenient for mailing lists... "Darrin" receives an email
from the list (i.e. not addressed to him directly), and I get buggered
to click a link of some sort that could as well put me on a spammer's
list! Why would I click it? I don't know these guys, I'm not obliged
to know them, and sure enough I won't trust these guys. Why am I
supposed to click the link anyway?

| You have to do this only once per Spam Arrest customer.

Oh, joy! It might have been once per message per costumer. Or once per
message per addressee.

Trying to stay calm I thought my mail must somehow have been taken for
spam. But here's what I see in the header of the returned message:

| X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-4.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00
autolearn=ham    version=2.63

What the hell? (GRRR!!!) Let's read on...

| Received-SPF: unknown(o2.pl: domain uses a mechanism not recognized by
this client)

Oh, come on! Why am I being punished for having an email address in a
"wrong" domain? I don't care if someone called "Darrin" receives my
posts or not. I don't give a rat's ass! I certainly don't want to get
this message every time I post to this list for every person applying
this kind of oppressive technology (just one right now). I use a GPRS
connection to read this list so I pay for the data volume downloaded,
so there is but one way to sort things out: the domain spamarrest.com
gets auto-deletion rule in Thunderbird. Done in 2 minutes - no more
messages. Life goes on. With or without "Darrin", the otherwise happy
Spamarrest.com subscriber.

| I've starting using Spamarrest to put a stop to the over 900 spams I
was receiving each day. Now, I don't get them.

My supposedly retarded domain's mail servers filter spam. I get 14000+
spam on my two accounts there and no more than 10 gets through to Inbox.
It's free and they don't annoy people with stupid messages. They just
use the very same SpamAssassin.

*Stupid protection == No protection*

Thank you and excuse me for this mail.

The best (worst?) thing is that "Darrin" won't get my message at all! Sweet.

Regards

Marcin Trybus (Llewelyn_MT)
