Yes, it is needed. I have finished a cleaned up version, and will post it at
most on monday.  That said, it should not be difficult to forward port the
patches in thinkwiki, and there is one in this ML that I made for those
trying my version of the extended thermal sensors.  Search the archives for
the last month.
