I do not think that it has anything to do with the '-C' flag of hdparm
since it is only used to check the power mode status of IDE.
laptop-mode-tools invoke 'hdparm -S <timeout_value> /dev/sda' to set the
standby spindown timeout. And this settings has no effect on my system
anymore.
