Afaik, FN+F7 only works when this feature is in Hardware, like the older
thinkpads.

Did you try:
echo lcd_disable > /proc/acpi/ibm/video and
echo crt_disable > /proc/acpi/ibm/video

It this works you can write a small helper script which uses these
commands to cycle through the states.
