No AHCI, (or SATA for that matter) in a T42, AFAIK. T43 has non-AHCI SATA in
BIOS, and AHCI if you *really* screw with the chipset.  T60 and newer have
AHCI in BIOS.

It is probably the old IDE modules still loading before ata_piix, or
ata_piix being a module and not in the initrd, etc.
