Just tried playing with the newest xrandr/xf86-video-ati. Unfortunately 
even the simplest:

xrandr --output LVDS --mode 800x600

gives me a blank screen. Is there some particular kernel options that must 
(or indeed must not) be turned on? Any particular option in the xorg.conf, 
perhaps?
