I am trying to get the modem working on a T61 8897-CTO running Debian Lenny=
/Sid=20
amd64, using the sl-modem-daemon package. It detects the modem, creates a=
=20
symlink, and wvdialconf detects the modem then, but dialing out returns "NO=
=20
CARRIER" errors, like this:

--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.56
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=3D0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=3D0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=3D0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=3D0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*******
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*******
NO CARRIER
ERROR
--> No Carrier!  Trying again.
--> Sending: ATDT*******
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*******
NO CARRIER
ERROR
--> No Carrier!  Trying again.
Caught signal 2: Attempting to exit gracefully...
--> Disconnecting

/etc/wvdial.conf:

[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 =3D ATZ

Any ideas?  Thanks.
