most of that has been superseded by xrandr 1.2 support:

As Phil mentioned you can set up multi-head with aticonfig, but if you
want to try the open source driver, Dave and I recently added
r5xx/r6xx support to it.  just grab the atombios-support branch of the
ati driver in git.
