What sort of speed do you get?  hdparm -tT  or bonnie++ numbers

Did you remove the hard drive?

What are the needle-nose pliers for?

While this sounds interesting, because the 600e has no built-in ethernet 
or WiFi it would require a USB adapter for any kind of network access.
