Doing the EC first is the acceptable method. The BIOS being able to  
talk to the EC is very important, and the EC knows how to talk to  
previous BIOSes, but not always the other way around. However, if the  
two are incompatible, it will warn you either way, so I don't see why  
anyone cares, but anyway...
