I accidentally booted my T41p to Linux from external USB hard drive. The disk 
in the USB box was taken from my old ThinkPad and the box was connected to 
the T41 during boot up. GRUB was automatically loaded from the external disk 
and the kernel booted OK off the ext2 formatted boot partition. Everything 
failed at mounting filesystem though (USB vs. IDE).
