I had a similar problem on Debian. Make sure uhci_hcd module is loaded and 
working properly. uhci_hcd takes care of USB 1.1, which ehci_hcd takes care 
of USB 2.0 and compatible. Most devices do not need uhci_hcd to work 
properly, but bluetooth on the X60 Thinkpad does.
