Hi Debbie,
as the RHEL5 is either released or to-be-release-really-soon (tm), my
first suggestion is to use a more recent version of your favorite
distribution. If that doesn't work for you (perhaps you have some SW
that is supported under RHEL3 only and you don't want to use
virtualisation), try to install it with non-SMP kernel and update your
kernel package. If that fails to resolve your issue and RHEL3 is still
supported, ask your software vendor (RH if it's really RHEL, someone
else if it's something like CentOS/Scientific Linux/whatever) to fix it.
