(II) NVIDIA dlloader X Driver 100.14.19 Wed Sep 12 14:14:20 PDT 2007
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU Quadro NVS 140M (G86GL) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)

2.4.24rc1, unpatched thinkpad-acpi (still 7-layer brightness).
In-X brightness did NOT work with bios image shipped with the laptop,
however since upgrading to 1.26 7KET56WW, in-X brightness works as
expected with the binary nvidia drivers, with the brightness keys
(fn-home/end) and with "echo level X > /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness".

So yes - with the latest bios, brightness control appears to work inside
X with the binary nvidia drivers. While I haven't tested with older
kernels, I would expect it to work on them since it didn't work
prior to the bios change on my current kernel.
