The intel graphics auto-detect worked fine under both Fedora x86_64 7 and 
8 on my T61 6465. I haven't tried Ubuntu but I'd be surprised if it did 
not detect the graphics, especially if thinkwiki says that it is ok. 

Did you do anything special while running the installer? You didn't have 
your thinkpad docked or an external monitor plugged in during install?
