[ltp] X61 or X61s (loud fan)

Hello dear Linux-Thinkpad Users,

My shiny new X61 arrived a few days ago. Currently it is running Debian
Lenny and I am quite happy with it. The only drawback is a very loud fan
under the upper left side of the keyboard. Not only does it run almost the
whole time, but it also is quite loud and makes pitch noises every 5
seconds. In a quiet room it is *really* annoying. A friend who owns a X61t
does not have this problem and his fan is also much more quiet.

I wrote my supplier and they told me I could exchange my X61 for another
Thinkpad (X60, X61s) or call Lenovo and ask to change my fan.

Before I do the latter, I wanted to ask what the list thinks about it. In
terms of Linux compatibility I guess the X61 and the X61s are much alike.
But what about noise and heat? I read the X61s does not get as hot on the
handrest as the X61. Is that true? Anyone here owning both who can share
some of his experience? Also the X61s is a bit lighter and battery life is
said to be better.

Or do you think it doesn't matter at all which one?

Thanks in advance,
Christian
