I have seen the same behavior on my T61 (intel), but only when
suspending with Fn-F4.  When suspending from the power applet's
menu or with "acpitool -s", it works fine.

I haven't dug deeper yet, but my hypothesis is that the ACPI
button event is simply getting repeated for some reason.
