Somewhere on the way to Ubuntu Intrepid (kernel 2.6.27-9) the undocking behavior changed so that "options dock immediate_undock=0" in /etc/modprobe.d/options no longer had any effect (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/307801).
