Dear David,

I've just had another thought - you could put your laptop disc into a 
USB enclosure, and then use a different machine to do the install. 
Should be easy (provided that you are careful not to accidentally 
install onto the wrong disc!).

For example, something like this will do.

I already have one, and it works fine. Yes, £4 is ridiculously cheap, 
and it does include the USB/HDD adapter electronics.
