"hwinfo" doesn't report "Thinkpad" on my T22.
But "lspci -v | grep -iq Thinkpad" seems to find the machines.

Maybe "grep -q ThinkPad" fits too - I don't know how precise the entries  
in "/usr/share/pci.ids" are.

It's a fine test: very quick and simple.
