[ltp] Thinkpad T60 - LinuxMint - no sound...

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 on which I run LinuxMint v5.0.  Everything works
except sound.

In the UIbuntu magazine Full Circle (No 14) a user was writing about lack of
sound after an upgrade and gave a solution, which worked for my desktop but
not for the T60.

The solution was to go into a terminal and type 

find /lib/modules/`uname -r` | grep snd

and if nothing was returned to then type

sudo aptitude install linux-ubuntu-modules-`uname -r` linux-generic

The appropriate files (modules) were then installed and, as stated this
worked for the desktop.

In LinuxMint Control Centre I have cycled through all the drivers -

Autodetect
AD198x Digital
AD198x Analog
ALSA -Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
EDS - Enlightened Sound Daemon
OSS - Open Sound System
PulseAudioSound Server

but to no effect.

Any assistance or advice will be welcome.  But beware, I'm relatively new to
Linux, so not too technical, please.
