I could find no way of controlling screen brightness (and power 
consumption) with the BIOS originally provided on my T61.  I'm not so 
ambitious as to attempt hibernation.  I must run dual boot with Windows 
XP32, and I don't want to try a BIOS which hasn't been approved with those 
Windows applications my employer requires, so I have applied just one 
update.  So I get by without the functions which appear not to be enabled 
by the BIOS.
