You are lucky, I only have a USB DVD-ROM with which I am unable to
update the BIOS unless I install Windows before :(

So, do not detach from the Ultrabase - this is non-sense.
The Ultrabase is almost passive and not dangerous for the upgrade
procedure. But fulle charge your battery before the upgrade and keep the
AC adaptor attached all the time - just to make sure. And it could also
not hurt to detach any unnecessary detachable hardware before doing it,
like USB hubs, USB device at large, etc.
