I didn't.  For completeness' sake I decided to explicitly state I didn't
have any data for or against.  I suppose I could've just not mentioned
it at all.

This is silly.  I could have just tested it in the time it took me to
write the above.  In fact, why don't I do it now?

Yes, hibernate works for me.

My coworker, who has an X61 and also runs Ubuntu, claims that hibernate
works fine for him.  Matthew Garrett, who gave a presentation about
Linux software suspend on linuxconf.au, claims that hibernate is
inherently broken and doesn't work for anyone. It's a pretty
