Cough... That's my biggest issue with RH... That stability is only stable so 
long as you want to do what everyone else has been doing for several years 
now...

No... You don't have to re-install. Upgrade maybe. But on most modern distros' 
that as simple as a single command followed by a reboot... But then I don't 
like rpm's either (Too many issues in the past with rpm hell for me to ever 
want to go back to an RPM based system I'm afraid).

Best distribution I'd recommend to anyone I think is Debian. Best if you like 
to customise things is Gentoo. Debian wins on stability & ease of use. Gentoo 
on customisation at the expense of a bit of thinking & re-compiling if you 
left a feature out.
