[ltp] T42 w/Ubuntu 8.10 possible Gnome issue

Ubuntu 8.10 seems to be working well on my T42 Thinkpad.

Except:

when I minimize a program (such as Firefox) it just disappears,
instead of appearing as a small icon at bottom of the screen.
