That has worked in the past, however, GNOME desktop keeps the sound driver
in use, so I had to log out, switch to a console, log in, kill the driver,
insmod it (cs-46xx, iirc), log out, switch back to console 7, log in.

Not exactly user-friendly. Something no one should have to tolerate.
