[ltp] hdaps parameter

Anybody knows where I can find details on what the number in 
/sys/devices/platform/hdaps/position and 
/sys/devices/platform/hdaps/variance mean. I understand they are some X and 
Y position, from playing with them it seems that neutral (flat) is around 
500, and I understand that they increase/decrease depending how you flip 
your laptop, but for example, what are their limits (by experience they 
don't go down to zero, and never beyond 700) ?

Is there a mathematical formula conneting the angle and the number ?

What is variance ?

I've googled for those, but couldn't really find anything, the module source 
even says "what is this ?" for the variance...
