Even with recent versions, it depends on the pages you visit, and on
the features enabled. Some rather static pages produce 20 or more
wakeups/second with their JavaScript crap. If you have some tabs with
such pages loaded, firefox sucks a noticable amount of power and causes
> 100 wakeups/s. With JavaScript disabled on such pages, firefox goes
down to < 5 wakeups/s. As digging around in the opened tabs and looking
for such broken pages is a somethat stupid task, I just defined a
keyboard shortcut that sends killall -STOP firefox-bin, and killall
-CONT firefox-bin if I press the key again. I now use this shortcut
when reading longer pages on battery power.
