Hmm, that=E2=80=99s very interesting! I gave up after reading somewhere on =
the
Internet (ThinkWiki? I can=E2=80=99t find this info now=E2=80=A6) that Disp=
layPort is
not yet supported in the intel driver. But xrandr does seem to see the
HDMI-1 output:

Still, no matter what I do (I=E2=80=99m using a Delock DisplayPort =E2=86=
=92 DVI
adapter=C2=B9) neither xrandr nor the monitor can see the other party
(neither with the stock Ubuntu xorg.conf nor with yours =E2=80=93 but thanks
for sharing!).

=C2=B9 http://delock.com/produkte/gruppen/Konverter/Delock_Adapter_Displayp=
ort_to_DVI-I_29pin_20cm_65093.html

Do you think this can be a case of a faulty adapter or the monitor=E2=80=99=
s DVI
cable (unfortunately, I can=E2=80=99t plug the adapter directly to the moni=
tor,
nor test it anywhere else=E2=80=A6)?

Note: Your system has X.org 1.6.2 with intel 2.8.0, while mine has
X.org 1.6.0 with intel 2.6.3. I=E2=80=99ll try with a current Karmic live C=
D,
as Karmic seems to have X.org and intel versions matching unstable=E2=80=99=
s.
