have you tried rmmod-ing the driver before suspend, and modprobe-ing
afterwards?

I've found that the "UnloadAllModules yes" option in hibernate-script 
helps a lot for a reliable suspend-to-ram (and resume).

That option tries to unload whatever modules it can, and then loads them
on resume.
