I think you bought the right one: a standard 15" display (with 4:3 
aspect ratio) is  12" wide, i.e. about 300mm.

Incidentally the display you have isn't WXGA, but UXGA. (not that it 
really matters).

When working on the display, may I recommend you have a can of 
compressed air handy for removing dust, also some soft-tipped tools (eg 
wooden toothpics, or bits of cut plastic) for moving things (that way 
you can't scratch the glass too easily), and some camera-lens cleaner.
